History
Miami Beach, Florida, U.S.A. It is located on an island barrier between Biscayne Bay (west), and the Atlantic Ocean, just east of Miami. The area was first inhabited by Tequesta, then later by Seminole Indians. The site was once a mangrove swamp. There, growers tried unsuccessfully for coconut plantations. However, they had more success with avocado groves. John S. Collins and Carl Fisher, John and James Lummus were the first to develop real estate. In 1920, a bridge was constructed across the bay, followed by a causeway. Dredging added more land to the island. Incorporated as Ocean Beach in 1915, the city’s name was later changed to Miami Beach in the following year.
The collapse of Florida’s land boom in 1926 and the Great Depression hampered growth. However, the city’s fortunes were reversible by constructing many Art Deco-style buildings in the mid-1930s. The city’s tourist industry was again severely affected by World War II, but it became a popular destination when many of its hotels were requisitioned for army training. The region became a popular tourist destination and retirement area after the war.
Miami Beach is a luxury resort and convention center that operates year-round. There are no other industries or transportation facilities aside from the road to Miami. Museums of Jewish culture and art are located in the city, reflecting its large Jewish community. The Holocaust Memorial features a bronze sculpture measuring 40 feet (12 meters) that depicts a hand reaching for the ground and panels listing names and addresses of victims. The facilities are only available for lap swimming to non-residents.
Greynolds Park: Greynolds Park is a 265-acre (1.07km2) urban park located in the heart of metropolitan Miami, Florida, United States. It is just north of North Miami Beach. There are many amenities at the park, including a picnic area, a bird rookery, and a boathouse. The highest point in South Florida is a 42-foot (13m) mound. The boathouse has a nature exhibit that offers interpretive programs, including lectures, campfires, nature walks, and guided or unguided nature walks.
